There are many benefits of practising yoga while you are pregnant

The transition to motherhood…Yoga classes create a space for you and your baby. The word yoga means union. The union of body, breath and mind brings inner peace and deep relaxation. Yoga is an empowering and grounding practice at a time of great change. It is a safe and comfortable form of exercise while you are pregnant.

Labour and birth…In the classes we look at yoga postures and breathing techniques that can help you during labour and birth. Yoga increases confidence and trust in your ability to give birth naturally. You will gradually awaken the intelligence of the body, developing intuition and instinct. Yoga postures strengthen and increase flexibility, e.g. for squatting, and help to develop resources for managing pain. Postural awareness helps position the baby optimally and develops ease in upright positions for an active labour. During labour, yoga practices enhance the secretion of endorphins, increase the connection with gravity and earth and help you to open and surrender to the experience of contractions.

Health and Well-Being….Better circulation of blood and lymph fluids…Improved muscle tone….Strength and flexibility…Relieves tension in muscles and joints…Prevents/ relieves backache, pelvic and rib pain…Eases common ailments of pregnancy e.g. cramps, breathlessness, sleeplessness, swelling…Improves energy levels and lifts fatigue…Develops postural awareness…Lowers Blood Pressure …When we align the body, we also align the mind.

Company and Friendship…Ongoing support and affirmation from the group
